Last Friday, our Melbourne Aruma team donned their basketball shoes and headed to Waverley Basketball Association in Chadstone for Flying Fox’s Corporate Fun Day, supporting young people with disability through the power of sport and connection.
Our therapy and positive behaviour support, community, home and living, and shared services teams joined youth participants, volunteers, and other corporate teams for a day of hoops, heart, and community. The goal? Play some basketball, support an incredible organisation, and maybe, just maybe, bring home the win.
Spoiler alert: we didn’t win. But we sure had fun trying.
Game on

The day kicked off with a round-robin tournament that brought together Flying Fox youth participants, volunteers, and corporate teams like ours. The energy was electric. The competition was real, and connections were made on and off the court.
People with and without disability came together through teamwork, some friendly competitive banter, high fives and plenty of laughs.

How’d we do?
Let’s just say our basketball skills need a bit more practice. Despite some solid hustle, great teamwork, and a whole lot of heart, Team Aruma was knocked out in the first round.
But you know what? We’re already planning our comeback for next year. Watch out, corporate Melbourne!
Supporting our friends at Flying Fox
Flying Fox is a not-for-profit organisation creating social opportunities for young people with and without disability. They’re tackling social isolation head-on by equipping young adult volunteers to support participants with disability to develop independence, engage in their community, and thrive as equal members of society. And for us at Aruma, we couldn’t be prouder to support.
Big thanks
A big thank you to Flying Fox for organising such an incredible day, to all the participants and volunteers who made it so memorable, and to our fellow corporate competitors who brought their A-game. And of course, a massive thank you to every Aruma team member who laced up and joined in. You legends!
Until next year, we’ll be working on our layups.
