Last month, our team at the Taree Community Hub hosted a special event for the local community.
The team welcomed local singer-songwriter and Aruma Human Rights Advisory Committee Member, Nell Tyler to perform songs from their album which was also available for purchase on the day.
Taree participants fired up the BBQ, selling sausages for a gold coin donation with funds raised going back to The Hub.
2BOB Radio came along for the lunchtime broadcast and enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere created by good music and good times.
Speaking on the event, Nell said “My passion is music, my gift is songwriting, and my goal is to sing about the things we don’t speak about, and to break barriers and assumptions so that people with disability are as regular a feature on a stage as any other performer. I’m so thankful to Aruma for being so supportive of this dream of mine, and of the barrier-breaking dreams of their other participants.”
We asked Heath and Glen, participants from our Taree Hub what they thought of the day.
“I really liked the concert, it was a big day and it was very cool. I enjoyed Nell’s music and especially as they write their own songs. I also enjoyed helping setting up the equipment, as a muso myself I got some experience helping Nell,” said Heath.
“Yeah it was great, I really liked Nell’s music, it was energetic and sounded cool. Nell is a really good singer and I especially liked their guitar,” said Glen.
Nell is taking this show on the road, performing at their next gig hosted by our Port Macquarie Hub at 3 Fernhill Road on the 19th of March, 11am-1pm.
