Change is part of life. It can bring growth and opportunity, but it can also create uncertainty and stress.
At Aruma, we believe safety means more than preventing physical harm. Through The Aruma Way, our quality framework guiding how we work, The Safe Way is about creating safe support that keeps everyone safe from harm.
That includes emotional and psychological wellbeing too.
Different types of safety matter
When people hear the word ‘safety’, they often think of physical risks. But supportive communities and workplaces are built on many forms of safety, including:
- Physical safety: Safe environments and practices.
- Psychological safety: Feeling respected, included and able to speak up.
- Emotional safety: Feeling supported and valued.
- Cultural safety: Environments where identity and diversity are respected.
- Social safety: Connection, belonging and trusted relationships.
All these forms of safety influence our wellbeing.
Why uncertainty can feel hard
In a time shaped by cost-of-living pressures, global conflict, and constant change, many people are carrying more stress than usual, often without realising it.
Our brains are wired to seek certainty. When routines change or the future feels unclear, it’s common to feel distracted, overwhelmed or on edge.
That doesn’t mean something is wrong with you, it means you’re human.
Leadership coach Claire Pallot recently shared practical guidance with Aruma staff on navigating stress and change. One of her strongest messages was that awareness creates choice.
By noticing our stress signals early, we can respond more constructively.
Signs stress may be increasing
- Trouble concentrating
- Racing thoughts
- Irritability
- Fatigue
- Difficulty sleeping
- Withdrawing from others
- Feeling overwhelmed
Recognising these signs early can help prevent burnout.
Small actions make a big difference
When things feel uncertain, simple habits can help you feel more at ease:
- Pause and breathe: Slow breathing can help regulate the nervous system.
- Focus on facts: Separate what you know to be true from what you are worried might happen.
- Choose one next step: Small actions build momentum.
- Stay connected: Speak with someone you trust and ask for support.
- Take time to rest and recharge: When life feels busy, it’s easy to turn to distractions that don’t truly help us recharge. Instead, simple things like a walk outside or an early night can improve your energy and wellbeing.
The Safe Way in action
We can’t always control what’s happening around us, but we can influence how we respond to it. Building awareness of stress, using simple strategies in the moment, and staying connected to others can make a real difference to how we feel and cope through change.
Looking after your wellbeing is not something to do alone. It’s something we do together, through the way we support each other, speak up when things don’t feel right, and take small, practical steps to care for ourselves.
At Aruma, The Safe Way means more than avoiding harm. It means creating environments where people feel safe, supported and able to manage life’s ups and downs.
