This National Carers Week, we recognise the 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to family members and friends living with disability, chronic illness, mental health conditions, and other needs.

At Aruma, we’re proud to walk alongside many of these incredible carers, among our staff, in the families we support, and across our communities.

Many carers juggle their caring responsibilities alongside work, study, parenting, and looking after their own health and wellbeing. They also experience higher rates of stress, loneliness, and financial pressure than the general population.1

That’s why it’s so important we don’t take carers for granted but actively support them.

How you can support carers

Small actions can make a big difference. This week (and beyond) you can:

  • Say thank you. A kind, genuine message can help carers feel seen, valued, and appreciated.
  • Lend a hand. Whether it’s running an errand, cooking a meal, or mowing the lawn, a helping hand can give carers a break.
  • Stay connected. Invite them for a coffee or walk (with no pressure).
  • Be flexible. Show understanding when plans change and caring takes priority.
  • Share supports. Encourage carers to access resources like Carer Gateway, carer networks, or support services in their area.

How Aruma supports carers

We’re committed to creating a workplace where carers feel understood, empowered, and valued.

Through our Carers Focus Group, part of Aruma’s broader Diversity and Inclusion initiative, we:

  • Advocate for carers across the organisation
  • Shape carer-inclusive policies and practices
  • Create space for connection and support

We also offer flexible work arrangements, carer-friendly leave, wellbeing resources, and peer support.

Thank you, carers!

To every carer in our community, thank you. You make a profound impact in the lives of people with disability.
