Our Gippsland team hosted their first community Art-Ability Exhibition on Wednesday, in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD).
Open to the public from 3-5 December, the Exhibition showcases the talent of local artists with a disability within the Gippsland community, with more than 40 entries received from individuals and local Specialist Schools across the region.
The opening was attended by Aruma staff, artists, friends and family with the public who gathered to celebrate both the artists and International Day of Persons with a Disability.
Club Aruma participant, Jodie, entered with a ‘Multicoloured Vertical Garden’ artwork and said she “loves art as a way to express herself, her ideas and imagination”.
Another Club Aruma participant, Tanya, entered two footy themed mosaics in the exhibition – one of the Essendon mascot Moz, and the other of the Geelong mascot, Sam Tomcat. She loves that “art is fun, and that she can be herself while doing it”.
“We’ve been blown away by the response from local artists and community groups who have taken up the opportunity to get involved. We’re proud to host an event that celebrates and uplifts people with disabilities by showcasing their incredible talents for the wider community to connect with,” said Chris McGlenchy, Aruma Executive General Manager Shared Living.
