We’re excited to celebrate two of our Alstonville Work Ready graduates, Shanan and Jacinta, who are starting new jobs at Summerland Farm this month!
Aruma’s Work Ready Program supports people with disability to build the skills, confidence, and experience they need to enter the workforce.
It also offers a pathway into employment, empowering participants to kickstart their careers.
“I liked my work experience. I feel more confident now. I like the team, and I like working outdoors,” says Shanan, who will be joining the farm’s Facilities Management team.
During the program, Shanan enjoyed learning how to use tools such as the whipper snipper and backpack blower. He is now excited to learn to drive the mowers as part of his new role. For Shanan, having a job means building new skills, gaining greater independence, and earning an income.
Meanwhile, Jacinta is beginning her career as a Retail Worker at Summerland Farm’s Retail Hub. Through the Work Ready Program, she increased her confidence, improved her money handling skills, and learnt skills in customer service, food handling, and health and safety.
“I’m looking forward to becoming more independent and meeting new people,” she says about starting her new role.

Through our Work Ready Program, participants have the chance to gain real work experience, both within Aruma businesses (like Summerland Farm) and external businesses, supporting them to transition into meaningful employment.
