First 3 months

  • Attend Aruma’s induction
  • Get to know your team, your new graduate colleagues, your manager and the organisation
  • Learn about your role
  • Meet the people who will support you like your manager,
    buddy, practice coach
  • Begin to meet children and adults in shadow and supported visits
  • Attend small group sessions with new graduates
  • Start delivering services for children, young people, families and adults
  • Develop your confidence in scheduling, making notes and managing a caseload

  • Apply your learnings

Aruma is a large, well-established not for profit disability service provider with a focus on Human Rights.  We’re the helper, mentor, coach and trusted partner of just over 4,000 people with a disability throughout the east coast of Australia.

Our Therapy Services team has over 100 practitioners which includes Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educators and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners.

This is like having access to a huge brains trust! We share information and learnings generously through peers, meetings, supervision and our communities of practice.

A diverse and varied caseload will assist you to develop your breadth of practice.

You’ll also work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in community, clinic, telehealth and in consultative models of service.

There’s a strong focus on connection within your team, within therapy and across the larger organisation. Along with a supportive and positive culture that assists you to develop your practitionership, confidence and nurture your health and wellbeing.

At Aruma we have access to a Quality, Safeguarding and Practice excellence team and clear policies and procedures to guide the quality of our practice and service delivery.

As a larger organisation, there is plentiful support from our shared service partners.  For example, People partners to support all employees around human resource matters, IT teams to assist with responsive IT support.

Aruma provide comprehensive support to new graduates.

  1. We are a for-purpose organisation with a huge Human Rights focus. One-way Aruma demonstrates this is by having a dedicated Human Rights team.  People with disability are employed as Human Rights Advisors and give Aruma guidance around services, policies and other matters that impact people with disability.
  2. Scope of your practice. Aruma offers you a breadth of opportunity within your work.  You may be able to specialise in Paediatrics, young people, adults and develop skills to support people across the lifespan.  We can support you to try things out and choose your pathway.
