Your interests, your goals, your way

Explore your community with a dedicated support worker by your side

Your community, your way. With one-on-one community support, you get a dedicated support worker to help you explore your community and do the things you love. You decide what you want to do, where you want to go, and how often you need support.

This might mean joining a sports team, going to the movies, trying a new hobby, or simply meeting a friend for coffee. Maybe you want to learn to catch public transport, volunteer, or explore something new. The choice is completely up to you.

At Aruma, community participation isn’t a one-size-fits-all service. It’s about designing supports around your life. With personalised plans built in partnership with you and your family, we put your goals, big and small, at the heart of everything we do.

Your one-on-one community support questions answered

One-on-one community support is an NDIS-funded service that helps you take part in social, recreational and community activities with a dedicated support worker. It’s about getting out into your community, building skills, and doing the things that matter to you.

With this type of support, you choose the activities and set the pace. Your support worker is there to help you feel confident and supported while you explore what life has to offer.

The activities are completely up to you; we support what you’re interested in. Here are some ideas:

  • Joining a sports team, gym or fitness class
  • Taking an art, music, drama or cooking class
  • Meeting friends for coffee, BBQs or movie nights
  • Going shopping or running errands
  • Attending community events, markets or festivals
  • Volunteering for a cause you care about (like Meals on Wheels or Vinnies)
  • Learning to use public transport
  • Exploring new hobbies like surfing, photography or dancing
  • Attending appointments or faith-based gatherings.

With one-on-one support, you get a dedicated support worker who focuses entirely on you and your goals. You choose the activities, and everything is designed around your schedule and interests.

Group programs (sometimes called day programs or centre-based activities) are a great option if you enjoy doing activities with others. At Aruma, we also offer Club Aruma day programs where you can join group activities like art classes, music sessions, swimming or horse riding.

Both options work well, and some people choose a mix of both. It’s whatever suits you best.

Absolutely. A big part of what we do is helping you build skills and confidence so you can do more on your own over time.

Our support workers work alongside you at your own pace, celebrating small wins and helping you build towards bigger goals. Whether it’s catching public transport, budgeting, cooking, or building social connections — we tailor our support to match your goals and learning style. Every skill you gain is a step towards the independence you want.

Want to know more about building independence? Check out our Capacity building supports.

Yes. We work hard to match you with a support worker who understands your interests and goals. A good match makes all the difference, so we take time to get it right.

If you have preferences about who supports you, let us know. We want you to feel comfortable and confident with the people in your corner.

NDIS support category: One-on-one community support can be funded under two areas of your NDIS plan:

Core Supports — Assistance with Social and Community Participation. This funding helps with day-to-day support to take part in community, social and recreational activities. Core supports are flexible, so you can use this funding based on your needs.

Capacity Building Supports — Increased Social and Community Participation. This funding helps you develop skills to participate in your community more independently over time. It’s focused on building your confidence and abilities for the future.

Chat to our team if you’re not sure how your funding works.

Please note: We bill in line with the NDIS Price Guide, which generally increases annually.
