A place to call home (for now)
Stay somewhere safe and welcoming while you wait for your forever home
Medium term accommodation (MTA) gives you somewhere to live when your long-term housing isn’t ready yet. It’s a short-term stay — usually up to 90 days, or up to 180 days if you’re leaving hospital.
You might need MTA if you’re:
- Waiting for home modifications to be finished
- Waiting for assistive technology to arrive
- Waiting for your new SDA property to be ready
- Moving out of hospital or aged care
- Between homes and need somewhere safe to stay
At Aruma, we believe home is more than just a roof over your head. Even a short stay should feel comfortable, safe and welcoming. Our MTA properties are set up to support you while you wait for what comes next.
Note: Medium term accommodation is different to Short Term Respite (STR). STR is for shorter breaks of up to 14 days at a time.
Where is MTA available?
Aruma has welcoming MTA properties across New South Wales and Victoria. Each home is set up for people with disability and staffed by our friendly support teams.

Your MTA questions answered
Our team takes care of all your support needs so you can relax and enjoy your stay. We help with:
- Meals and cooking
- Personal care like showering and dressing
- Help with medication
- Getting out and about for activities
- Overnight support if you need it.
We work with you to make sure your stay suits your needs.
The NDIS usually funds MTA for up to 90 days (three months). If you’re leaving hospital, you may be able to stay for up to 180 days (six months).
MTA is a one-off support. The NDIS needs to see that you have somewhere to move into when your MTA funding ends.
MTA covers the cost of your accommodation. You’ll still need to pay for everyday expenses like food, phone, internet and other bills, just like you would at home.
Please note: We bill in line with the NDIS Price Guide, which generally increases annually.
MTA is funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan. To get MTA funding, you need to show the NDIS that:
- Your long-term housing is confirmed but not ready yet
- You have somewhere to move into when MTA ends
Chat with your support coordinator or our team if you need help with funding.
Please note: We bill in line with the NDIS Price Guide, which generally increases annually.
