The team at SL Constellation have been exploring opportunities for Wade to engage in a music group or jam session that was inclusive and something that he could engage with safely.
Unfortunately, after months of exploring options on the Gold Coast, they were unable to identify anything suitable. Committed to finding a solution, Support Worker and talented musician, Peter Harvey and MSL, Nathan Lawrie decided instead they would just create their own jam session and host it at Wade’s home.
The session – held in June – created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where everyone had the opportunity to join in, listen, connect, and enjoy the energy of live music, no matter what their skill level and interests involved.
Participants were encouraged to express themselves in their own way, whether by singing along, playing instruments, clapping to the beat, moving with the music, or simply enjoying the sound and company around them. The jam session supported creativity, confidence, social connection, and a strong sense of belonging.
Reflecting on the experience, Nathan said, “we know music can bring people together and support wellbeing, self-expression and community inclusion. The jam session was a memorable day for us all.”
The session ended with a well-deserved BBQ and the group has already made plans for this to become a monthly session and hopefully gather more interest in the Gold Coast community.
