When the Charlestown Club Aruma Hub team headed to the recent Newcastle School Leavers Expo, they went along to connect with other local service providers and build relationships across the community. What they did not expect was an invitation to a laser tag showdown.
Fellow Newcastle NDIS provider ConnectAbility asked the Hub to join an interagency Laser Tag Battle, and the team said yes without hesitation.
The first round brought staff and participants from both organisations together for a bit of friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and the chance to meet new people. Vests on and lasers ready, everyone got stuck in.
For participants, the best part was getting out into the local community, connecting with people from another service, and enjoying a shared experience that was all about fun.
“It was awesome seeing services come together like this, and everyone’s keen for the next round,” said Adam Imber, Charlestown Club Aruma Club Lead.
The good news for the laser tag crew is that this is just the beginning. The Hub has already been invited to a second interagency event, this time celebrating Halloween in October. Stay tuned for more photos and more friendly rivalry.
Days like this are a great example of the Aruma Way in action, and in particular our goal of working Together. When services join forces with the wider community, participants get more chances to try new things, make new friends, and take part in experiences they genuinely enjoy.
