Alethea, a resident in our Parkvista Supported Independent Living home in Southern Queensland has entered the 2025 Changes and Hopes Lived-Experience Art Competition.
The competition is a celebration of transformation and resilience, presented by the Centre for Disability Research and Policy and Disability at Work Network, and was open to all mediums capturing the essence of ‘Change and Hope’.
Speaking about her submission, Alethea said, “My artwork represents my past and shows that I was not confident and that I was very shy. I’m getting better each year I’m getting more and more confident in been brave and facing my fears.”
“Looking at my artwork you would see two sides, one side is a room filled with people in the shadows standing around a girl and cat who are stood in front of a box. This side is dark and foggy and represents me hiding from my fears. The other side of the art is a bright sunset where I am having a picnic with cats on the grass. Now I see my growth,” she said.
