Aruma’s Envirogang are levelling up

Aruma's Port Macquarie Hub participants, with the help of Port Macquarie Hastings Council, are cleaning up the community.

April 8, 2025

Our participants are doing incredible work in their communities! One such group is our ‘Envirogang’, a group of dedicated Club Aruma participants.

The Envirogang, run by our Port Macquarie Hub, regularly clean up and remove litter from their local parks and waterways. The group work together to help keep local wildlife safe, prevent pollution, and protect the environment for future generations.

“I like that we are making an impact to our community. It makes me feel happy when people notice our work and give us nice comments,” said Teleah Walker, a participant from the Envirogang.

There’s a strong sense of pride and accomplishment among the group.

“The Envirogang come together as a team to help clean up their community which gives them all a great sense of pride and enjoyment getting out and about. This program is one of the great programs we run at the Fernhill Road Hub. It has been running for over 12 years thanks to partnerships with our local council,” said Rachael Sonter, Aruma Community Service lead for the Mid North Coast.

She continued, “last year the Envoirogang won an Australia Day volunteer award in our local area.”

Despite their dedication, the team lacked some essential equipment to carry out their work safely, such as pick-up sticks, shirts, sun hats, and gloves.

Fortunately, the Port Macquarie Hastings Council recognised the group’s contributions and awarded them a Community Grant to continue making a difference.

The success of the grant application was a proud moment for everyone involved.

With their new gear, the Envirogang is now ready to continue their efforts in making Port Macquarie a cleaner, greener place for everyone to enjoy.

We’re so proud of the team and their ongoing efforts to improve the community. We can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish next!

Thank you to the Port Macquarie Hastings Council for their support.
