It’s the small, meaningful touches that truly turn a house into a home. Just ask Pamela, an Aruma participant, who has found renewed joy tending to a new garden at her shared living home.

Pamela is a passionate gardener, and when she told her support team how much she missed having a proper garden to care for, they listened. The team came together to create Pamela’s dream garden, shop for supplies, and plant seedlings based on her preferences.

“Pamela is absolutely over the moon. It’s clear how much joy this has brought her,” said Dilip, Manager of Shared Living.

Pamela was involved every step of the way. She helped set things up, selected her favourite flowers, and was thrilled to watch her vision come to life.

It’s not just flowers; there’s a veggie patch too! With lettuce, tomatoes, celery and spring onion now growing, Pamela and her housemates are looking forward to adding home-grown ingredients to their meals.

Each Monday, all five housemates sit together to plan the week’s meals. Favourites include chicken schnitzel with chips and salad, sausages and mash, and a good curry. Now, with veggies picked straight from the garden, mealtimes will be even tastier.

“Staff are really excited about the new garden too. They are looking forward to maintaining it with the participants,” said Dilip.

It’s more than just a garden. It’s a space for social connection, independence, and shared purpose. For Pamela, it’s become a meaningful part of her daily life.

At Aruma, we’re proud to support goals that matter to the people we support. And for Pamela, this beautiful garden is already making a big difference.
