Bonython SIL resident, Paul has always loved taking pictures of the world around him, especially passenger trains, freight trains, and train stations.
Paul set himself a goal to learn how to take high-quality still photographs using a DSLR camera and record videos using a 4K video camera. He attended training sessions, asked questions, and spent time experimenting with different camera settings.
As his confidence and skills grew, Paul began taking short trips to places he had always dreamed of visiting. These trips gave him the opportunity to capture stunning landscapes, local landmarks, and special moments through his camera lens all while building his independence.
Wanting to take his creativity even further, Paul – with the help of his support worker who has a degree in photography – learned how to edit his photos and video clips using computer software. One of his favourite achievements was learning to add music to his videos, turning simple recordings into entertaining productions.
Today, Paul proudly shares his photos and videos with family, friends, and his community. Achieving his goal has boosted his confidence, independence, and sense of accomplishment. His journey demonstrates that with determination, practice, and the right support, people can learn new skills and achieve goals that are meaningful to them. This is doing things ‘Your Way’.
When asked about his progress and how he feels about his achievement, Paul said he’s “on the right track!” and we agree!
