Congratulations are in order!

The Better Homes and Garden segment on Summerland Farm wins the National Disability Services Media Award.

December 20, 2023

You may remember back in March Aruma’s Summerland Farm was featured on Better Homes and Gardens.

Yes, that’s the same Channel 7 program named Friday’s top entertainment in 2022, which brings in an average of 397,000 viewers each week!

Not long after the segment premiered, The National Disability Services (NDS) announced the 2023 National Disability Awards, and we were excited to find out that the segment was nominated for the media award.

The award celebrates media coverage that generates impact, creates awareness of disability, promotes inclusion in a contemporary way, and highlights the value of the work of disability service providers.

In October, our excitement peaked when we discovered we were among the top three finalists.

On the official website, NDS CEO Laurie Leigh said, “We were delighted to receive 230 nominations, a tremendous result, highlighting the achievements of disability service providers and their staff across Australia.”

On December 11th, the awards ceremony was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. And drumroll, please…

Better Homes and Gardens was announced as the winner for their segment on our very own Summerland Farm!

Presenter Joh Griggs accepted the award and later wrote on her Instagram, “It was such an honour to accept the Media Award at the inaugural National Disability Awards for our story on Aruma’s Summerland Farm.”

She continued, “Summerland Farm is in far northern NSW in Alstonville. It’s a working macadamia and avocado farm with an amazing café/restaurant, gift shop, plant nursery, animals, and a very sought-after wedding venue. But best of all, it employs 100 people with disabilities.”

This was the second award for Summerland Farm this year, having won the 2023 North Coast Tourism Awards back in July.

We’re so excited to see what 2024 will bring for the Farm.
