Occupational Therapy

If your child or young person would like to build independence in everyday activities, Occupational Therapists can work with them and their support system to learn new skills or find new ways of doing things.

Occupational Therapy at Aruma

At Aruma, our Occupational Therapists (OTs) work closely with children, young people, and their families to help develop essential skills for daily life, focusing on independence, functional abilities, and overall well-being. Our approach prioritises functional gains across everyday activities that enhance participation in daily routines, play, and family life.

What can Occupational Therapy help with?

  • Daily routines and independence: Our OTs can assist with building skills for tasks like setting up routines, preparing meals, eating with cutlery, brushing teeth, and dressing (e.g. tying shoelaces).
  • Play and recreation: We support children in developing gross motor and play skills, which may help some children learn to ride a bike or learn to swim.
  • Assistive technology and home modifications: If needed, we can work with families to recommend equipment like wheelchairs, strollers, car seats, walkers, sensory toys, mealtime aids and modified cutlery, and can also assist with home modifications (e.g. ramps, bathroom adjustments) to improve accessibility and safety.
  • Sensory support: For children who experience challenges with sensory processing (e.g. sensitivities to light, sounds, or textures), we create personalised plans to support their needs.
