On the 6th of December, Aruma staff hosted an open day to unveil seven new purpose-built apartments in Werrington, a suburb of Western Sydney.

The Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes have been created in partnership with Home in Place, one of Australia’s largest non-government social housing providers.

These houses have been in the works for the last 12 months and everyone was so happy to see the final product.

“These new apartments are our best yet. The attention to detail with the design is amazing and they are in a great location. We’ve already had a few potential residents and families look through, and the feedback has been positive,” said Regional Manager, Yasmin Alameddin.

It was a great turn out with existing Aruma participants, new potential residents, families, external support coordinators and even neighbours popping over to tour the property.

As they explored there were lots of ooh’s and ahh’s, especially around the open plan kitchens, heating and cooling throughout, accessibility features, and the shared backyard.

The feedback on the day from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.

When viewing the backyard, one father said, “This would be the perfect spot for a barbecue.” He was also impressed with the large wet room bathrooms and the assistive technology in the bedrooms.

Another potential resident told Customer Engagement Manager, Bianca Von Clark, “I’d love to live in number five, what do I have to do to live there?”

The next step for the Aruma team will be to welcome new residents to the property.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in these homes and such a great turn out to this open day. Even a few people I invited just last week at an expo showed up. I’m so excited for people to move in, we’re hoping they will be in by February,” said Bianca.

According to NDIS SDA demand data, there are currently 16 people with a disability in the immediate Penrith and St Marys areas* alone looking for a suitable property that meets their needs. That number rises to around 70 across other Western Sydney suburbs.
