Michael from Burleigh Forensics and Packaging was chosen to travel to the UK to represent Australia in the Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) World Cup.

The overseas trip to Warrington was an amazing opportunity for Michael to do what he loves, make new friends, and visit a new part of the world.

“When Michael found out he was going overseas, he was stoked. He was so excited, and so was all of the team at Burleigh,” said Packaging Site Coordinator, Helen Karathanasis.

Michael’s nickname at work is ‘smiley’; as you can imagine, he was absolutely beaming on this day.

During the 10-day trip, Michael and his 19 teammates played against England, New Zealand, and Wales. Playing in the wing position, Michael gave each training session and game 150%.

Playing alongside Australian comedian, radio, and television presenter Adam Hills was a major inspiration and motivator. While the team didn’t take home the trophy, the real win was the unforgettable experience they will always hold close to their hearts.

“Michael loves his football and getting to go overseas with his mates and his mum is an amazing achievement. He also felt pretty proud of himself when a TV crew came to work to film his story,” said Helen.

And what an impressive story that is… Michael has been with Burleigh Forensics and Packaging for an impressive 20 years. Over that time, he has bloomed into the friendly and cheery man we know today.

Good on you, Smiley! Keep kicking those goals.
