Longing for a latte? Cody can make your dream come true!

Cody, one of our customers from the Gold Coast, is steaming towards his dream gig – working in hospitality.

The 20-year-old, who lives in one of our Supported Independent Living homes on the Gold Coast, recently achieved his Certificate II in Hospitality from the Presto Café at Dreamworld.

Completing the 10-week course through the Preston Campbell Foundation, which owns and runs the theme park’s café, Cody picked up some sweet skills including coffee making and customer service.

Support Manager Nathan (pictured above left with Cody on the right) beamed with pride watching Cody accept his certificate at a ceremony hosted at Presto, alongside eight of his classmates.

Cody was so dedicated and motivated through the whole course, waking up early to get ready and out the door and onto public transport, so he made it on time for his classes, Nathan says.

His amazing team of support workers rallied around him to help figure out transport timetables and paperwork for his course, which is part of Aruma’s School Leaver Employment Supports.

Cody was wrapped to have had the chance to complete a course that will help him kick-start a new career.

I loved this course – more guys from Aruma should do it. I made heaps of friends, and everyone helped each other. If I saw someone needing help, I would help them, and they did the same for me, he says.

With his teachers singing his praises, Cody has been recommended for a traineeship in Hospitality and Cheffing at Prestige Staffing Solutions. This can lead to an apprenticeship and no doubt the start of a budding career in the hospitality industry on the Gold Coast.
