A few words from our new CEO

G’day everyone,

I’m Martin Laverty, and today is my first day. I’m thrilled to have joined Aruma.

I’m writing to you today from Queensland. It’s not my usual home base (that’s Canberra) however, my focus for the next six weeks or so is getting out and about.

I want to meet as many staff, customers and families as I can – this will be a great footing for me to get to know Aruma.

Here’s a little more about me…

I’ve been involved in disability support for thirty years, and was an inaugural Director of the NDIS, serving on the NDIA Board from 2013 to 2021.

I finished recently as the CEO of the Australian Medical Association, and before that I was CEO of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.

While I am supportive of the scheme, I also believe it is currently at a fragile point. Every person dependent on it needs governments to get the scheme operating optimally. Disability support providers – like Aruma – have a key role in fixing the NDIS.

I’m humbled to be one of the Aruma team. I look forward to continuing to work to achieve Aruma’s purpose of supporting people with a disability to live a great life, the life they want, the life they choose.
