Smart & Skilled: This training is subsidised by the NSW Government

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

From 1 January 2015, Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
  • government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas

With Smart and Skilled, you have more choice when selecting courses and training providers. You can determine your eligibility for Smart and Skilled training in the Eligibility Checker. You can then find the right course and training provider, and get an estimate of your course fee, in the Course Finder. The site also includes information for employers and training providers.

State Training Services, in the NSW Department of Industry, is responsible for Smart and Skilled and leads policy, planning, funding, regulation and advice on VET and employment in NSW.
