Get hands-on experience

We are looking for people who have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability and want to share their skills, hobbies, and talents.
Volunteer opportunities are currently available in the following regions:

Do I need any qualifications or experience?

You don’t need any disability experience or qualifications to join the Aruma Volunteer team. Our staff will provide you with training and support every step of the way.

Some checks that are required before volunteering:

  • Police check (National Police Criminal Record Check – over 18 years of age).
  • Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme Check (DWES)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Two satisfactory references: one being from an employer or previous employer.

Share a Skill

We are seeking volunteers to join our Melbourne Northern Metro team, who would like to share a skill or hobby with our customers with a disability.

We are looking for a broad range of skills and interests including technology, beauty, massage, craft, card making, mosaic, beading, painting, and music therapy. Your interests may be more on the physical side for you to support people to go bowling, swimming, wheelchair yoga, or walking.

Arrangements can be made on a, fortnightly, and monthly commitment, times, and days are flexible.

Host Volunteer

Our customers also enjoy that one on one time for coffee and sharing stories. Mentor and Host volunteers, who are matched with a participant. You will provide much appreciated respite, spending time with a customer a few hours each month, getting to know them and supporting them to enjoy a comfortable and satisfying home and community life.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Share life experiences and provide age-appropriate everyday activities
  • Assist, where required, with the personal care needs of the customer
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Respect individual choice and encourage independence.
  • Demonstrate positive and inclusive attitudes in the community
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment and responsibility whilst understanding and respecting Aruma customers, their families, and other people in the customer’s support network.

Recreation Volunteer

Recreational Volunteers provide support to Support Workers in their duties delivering recreation services to people with disabilities, in a safe enjoyable environment, that promotes independence and inclusion. These are volunteers who may not have the time to commit to regular activity, but are happy to help at events we might hold such as discos, movie nights etc.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Provide and assist customers to engage in positive and meaningful group and/or recreational activities
  • Respect individual choice and encourage independence
  • Demonstrate positive and inclusive attitudes in the community
  • Always ensure the safety and security of the customer
  • Attend scheduled planning meetings as required – i.e., Camp Planning Meetings.
