Your vote matters

Aruma's Human Rights Advisory Committee are passionate about encouraging NDIS participants to exercise their right to vote.

April 29, 2025

As the federal election approaches, it’s crucial that all Australians have an equal opportunity to exercise their right to vote. However, for people with disability, there can be many barriers to overcome to have their voices heard.

Our Human Rights Advisory Committee is passionate about encouraging our participants to exercise their right to vote, and have recorded a video to share their thoughts:

Voting is a fundamental right, and as a society, we must ensure that people with disability can participate fully in the democratic process.

This means physically supporting voters to get to polling places, providing a mail vote, or even voting early. We also want support networks to help participants make informed decisions without influencing or swaying their voting choices in any way. Have open conversations and provide resources and information that will enable someone to make their own decision based on their own views, not those of their family, friends, or support workers.

Whether you’re like Jim, who likes to do an early vote, or Erica, who chooses to postal vote, there is still time to get them in.

Or if you’re like David and James, who enjoy the rush of voting on the day and grabbing a classic Aussie democracy sausage, we hope you have a great Saturday voting experience.
