If you ever need help changing the oil in a motorbike, Aruma customer Wal is the man for the job!

Recently, Wal became an apprentice for a day at Col Nelson Motorcycles in Gunnedah, NSW.

It was clear to Support Worker Suse that a chance to put is passion into practice made Wal so happy.

We got to watch and Wal gave expert advice to Col while he worked on a Pee Wee 50, Suse said.

Wal’s love of motorbikes began when he was 20, when he taught himself to ride.

I worked really hard to buy my first motorbike and quadbike. I was working three jobs to raise the money, says Wal.

Sadly, a motorbike accident two years ago, means Wal can no longer ride, but his love of motorbikes has never wavered.

Wal’s son now has his beloved Kawasaki and is enjoying rebuilding it with Wal’s expert guidance.

Spending the day at Col Nelson Motorcycles brought back a lot of great memories for Wal.

I taught myself to change oil. I’ve been doing it all my life. I couldn’t thank Col enough for letting me change the oil. I was so happy, he says.

Wal did the oil change, and knew exactly what he was doing, like he’d done it a hundred times before, says Suse.

After a morning of hard work, the team sat down to enjoy one of Wal’s favourite pastimes – a smoko with tea and biscuits.

The day was such a success that there are plans to make it a regular event.

I’m looking forward to going back to help out at the motorbike shop. We might do it once a week! says Wal.
