A walk on the wild side

The men from our Baulkham Hills Supported Independent Living home headed to Sydney Zoo.

Our Baulkham Hills Supported Independent Living (SIL) customers had a lovely day exploring Sydney Zoo and meeting creatures big, small, and prehistoric.

The zoo recently added a new attraction, the ‘Dinosaur Safari’, where guests can see life-size models of the stegosaurus, triceratops, and even a T-Rex!

“It was their first time going to the zoo, and it was a great day. They were so excited to see all the animals, but the dinosaur display was an exciting bonus. They took so many photos with the dinosaurs,” said Support Worker, Richard Pernez.

Throughout the day, James, Jerry, Joshua, Peter, and Terry pointed out their favourite animals and enjoyed having a turn at feeding the wallabies. In the afternoon, they had coffee in the café that overlooks the monkey exhibit.

What an ape-ic end to the day!

“The zoo is fully accessible, which made the experience easy, especially for James, who is in a wheelchair. Peter and Josh were helpful as always and took turns assisting James. The care and kindness they show each other is awesome,” continued Richard.

The housemates have been living together for almost ten years and have an incredible friendship. Pre-COVID, one of their favourite activities was to take an annual holiday together. Now that the world and travel are reopening, they are considering booking a cruise.

“They are more than best friends; they are like brothers. We celebrate everyone’s birthdays and important milestones with dinners or picnics. It’s a great atmosphere at the house,” said Richard.

We look forward to seeing what the guys do next.
