The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay began its journey in Pozieres, France on Anzac Day 2023. It has since travelled to London, England, and then to Australia.

The six-month campaign pays respect to and acknowledges our veterans by being carried by their families or other individuals who have a connection to Legacy or the Defence community.

On Monday, the 31st of July, the torch arrived in Forbes, where Aruma resident Paul was an official Torch Bearer for the day.

“He was super proud and said he felt honoured to do it. It was big smiles all day, and you could just tell how happy Paul was to be involved and have such a special role on the day,” said Support Worker, Bronte Bennett.

Paul’s late father Les Findlay, served Legacy and the Forbes RSL Sub Branch. In honour of his father, Paul was chosen to be the final torch bearer and the one to light the Legacy cauldron.

“Paul knew about the day quite far in advance, and he was very excited about it. He had been talking about it for ages. Being there to support him on the day was really special, and I was so proud to be there with him,” continued Bronte.

The torch bearers made their way around the town and then carried it up to the Forbes RSL Club, where the cauldron was lit. Paul, had his sister Judi and mum Di by his side, and everyone was moved by the ceremony.

They then headed inside the club for formal proceedings and of course, lunch after all that heavy lifting. Overall, Paul was proud of his achievements on the day and excited to see he made the local paper twice.

The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay has now concluded in Melbourne after arriving there on the 12th of October. Over the journey, it travelled over 50,000 kilometres and was carried by over 1,400 torchbearers.

Way to go, Paul, for doing your part!

In other news, Paul is also currently looking for a housemate. His 3-bedroom Supported Independent Living (SIL) home in Forbes is located in a quiet residential area and is close to public transport, shops and amenities.

Paul currently has one female housemate and both are very social. This home is best suited for a male or female who is independent and enjoys making new friends.

You can learn more about the house here and get in touch with Aruma if you or one of your loved ones is the perfect person for this house.
