A selfless gift

Our North Sydney Flexible Supports team have received some outstanding feedback from a long term clients family.

Michael is a flex customer from Macquarie Park in New South Wales, and recently his father Tim contributed a selfless donation to Aruma. Alongside the donation, he included a lovely thank you note to celebrate the team’s hard work.

“I would like you to know that this donation recognises the enormous benefit my son Michael and his partner Julia receive from Aruma.

The principal person responsible for this is his carer, Kylie. She provides all the usual services to ensure Michael receives the support he needs from the NDIS.

However, more importantly, she has established an incredible relationship with Michael and his partner Julia.

This brings them not only friendship and enjoyment but a real sense of pride in themselves, comfort and security.”

Michael’s dad lives on the central coast so although they do not spend as much time together as they would like, Michael and his girlfriend Julia, love heading up there for day trips.

“Last Sunday I supported Michael and Julia to visit Tim for a beautiful lunch on the Hawkesbury River. Tim is such a lovely man, and it was great to be able to thank him for this donation to Aruma in person. It’s wonderful that he is so involved in Michael’s life and is dedicated to his son’s health and wellbeing,” said one of Michael’s Support Workers, Kylie Carroll.

Over lunch, they discussed plans for Michael’s 50^th birthday party at the local Golf Club. It will be a great event and chance for Michael to let his hair down with family and friends.

Michael works five days a week at Silverwater jail and is currently living independently with Julia. Having his support workers around to help with the big grocery shop and trying new meals for dinner has greatly improved Michael’s quality of life.

“I’ve worked with Michael for five years and I have loved every minute of it. At Aruma we have such great customers, and Michael is one of them,” said Kylie.

It is through generous supporters like Tim, that we can continue to support people with a disability to live their best life.
