Aruma, one of the nations largest disability service providers, has partnered with developer and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider, Guardian Living to transfer three Aruma participants into a brand-new home, fully equipped for their high support needs.

The Aruma team had been looking for a housing solution in Swan Hill for several years, however, continually came up against restraints when trying to plan a rebuild. In May this year, Guardian Living, a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) developer reached out with a solution.

“Guardian Living have built a brand-new home that is perfect for our participants. They are all going to have their own bedroom with an ensuite, we’re all very excited about the beautiful new house within walking distance to the CBD,” said House Supervisor, Amy Alexander.

Guardian Living worked closely with Aruma, participants, families, support coordinators and occupational therapists to ensure all the preferences and requirements for each participant were met.

“It has been so refreshing to work with Guardian Living and have an SDA provider take on this responsibility. With any delay they have encountered, they haven’t slowed down or disrupted the timeframe of the build which has been amazing. They have also let us take a participant led approach. From site acquisition to specific build requirements, everything has been considered on an individual level,” said Karen Burke, National Business Development Manager.

The team are hoping to completely move into the new home by the end of the year.

“The participants can’t wait. We had a big meeting to tell them move in date is getting closer, and our verbal participant kept saying ‘I’m so excited, is it time to move in yet.’ She is also very excited to have her family come and visit the new house,” said Amy.

The participants are looking forward to showing their friends the new house once they have settled into their brand-new purpose-built home.
