Hear from Bobby, our Regional Business Development Partner for Northern NSW.
Welcome Bobby, can you tell us about your role? I’m the Regional Business Development Partner for Northern NSW, which is just a fancy way of saying I get to welcome new participants into the Aruma family.
What does an average day look like? Each day is a little different, which makes it exciting! At the heart of it, I’m meeting new people and figuring out how Aruma can best support them. Some days I’m sipping coffee at the local café with a sector network, other days I’m showing off our amazing services to new faces.
Sometimes I’m galivanting across the countryside attending various networking events. But let’s be real— there’s the equally as important but not-so-glamorous side of things – like Excel spreadsheets and various reporting systems. But hey, it’s a balance!
What do you love most about your job? It’s hard to pick just one thing, but if I had to choose, I’d say it’s visiting the Aruma services and catching up with the participants that I helped onboard. There’s nothing like seeing that smile and thinking, “I helped make that smile happen.”
Can you tell us about your career journey so far? I started fresh out of Uni in 2016, wide-eyed and unsure of what I wanted to do. I kind of fell into this sector and fell in love with it. There’s something so rewarding about helping people achieve their goals, no matter how small. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to hold various roles with Aruma, giving me a unique set of skills and experiences.
Do you have a favourite moment? There have been so many amazing moments over my nine years, but one that stands out is a recent moment that really helped me grow. I’ve always had that classic fear of public speaking. Well, I decided to face my fear and planned and hosted a networking event. Not only was it a 3-hour workshop with 30 people in the room, but one of Aruma’s big executives decided to show up too! (No pressure, right?) But I did it, and I nailed it! I felt amazing afterward and proud of myself for pushing through that fear—it was one of those “sliding doors” moments for me.
What are you looking forward to in 2025? We’ve got some amazing Home and Living developments in the pipeline, and while it’s going to take a lot of work, I’m totally up for the challenge. Club Aruma is really starting to take off, and I’m super excited to be part of this growth and see Aruma leading the way in an ever-evolving sector.
