Ways to manage your NDIS plan

Find out about the three different ways you can manage your NDIS plan.

Three ways to manage your plan

There are 3 different ways you can manage your NDIS plan.

You don’t have to choose only one of these options. You can use a combination.

For example, you might self-manage some parts of your plan while the NDIA may look after other parts.

1. Your plan is managed by someone from the NDIA

In this option, someone from the NDIA (the agency that runs the NDIS) can manage your plan for you. The NDIA will pay your disability service providers directly.

If your NDIS plan is managed by the NDIA, you cannot use unregistered providers.

2. Your plan is managed by a Plan Manager

In this option, you will be provided funding in your plan to pay for a Plan Manager.

Your Plan Manager will pay your providers for you, help you keep track of funds, and take care of financial reporting.

If your NDIS plan is looked after by a Plan Manager, you can use both registered and unregistered providers.

3. You manage your NDIS plan

In this option you will manage your own NDIS plan (you can also choose someone to help you such as a family member or friend). The NDIA will give you the money to pay for the supports that are in your plan.

If you manage your own plan, you will be responsible for:

  • Purchasing supports
  • Making agreements with your providers
  • Managing your funding
  • Claiming and paying for supports
  • Keeping invoices and receipts
  • Meeting your role as an employer if you employ staff
  • Preparing for plan reviews

If you look after your own NDIS plan, you can use both registered and unregistered providers.
