Video transcript

James: My name is James, from Armidale.

Gaye: James is my son and he is 32 years old.

Norman: James has had support from House with No Steps for about 18 months. It’s been tailored to his individual needs and capabilities.

James: My favourite thing I like to do is singing. This is a stage show, that’s me, I’m Robin Hood! And dancing, smiling.

Norman: James is a very fun loving, outgoing guy. He loves his life, in his own unit, but he loves going out into the community as well.

James: I work at Cliff Wright Motors. I do scrap metal and taking motors out of the cars.

Gary: Good morning James.

James: Good morning Gary.

Gary: How are you mate?

James: Good, yourself?

Gary: Going good?

James: Yes, I’m happy.

Gary: Are you ready for work?

James: Yes.

Gary: Good man.

James has been here for 2 years and he does a bit of everything to be honest. He predominantly works in the scrap yard sorting scrap metal and stripping cars in the wrecking yard.

He’s good at his job, he’s very methodical. You give him a project and he will stick to it to the nth degree, he will do it until it’s, you know, perfectly done.

But he’s happy to come along and do anything, he’s just one of those guys that enjoys being here. He really brings a great atmosphere with him, you know, he makes everybody around him happy and he’s always cheerful and singing and, you know, he loves to get along with people and make everybody else happy so it’s a real bonus to have him here.

James: I’m a worker, I’m part of the team.

Norman: He goes to the gym twice a week, it’s nearby and he gets so much fun out of going.

Gaye: He never ceases to surprise us with what he’s capable of doing.

Norman: Like every other activity of James’, he finds it fun.

Gaye: House with No Steps support him with his entertainment and shopping, and budgeting and things like that.

Norman: James plans his own shopping list. He shops quite independently with very little support needed. Most incredible activities happen anywhere that House with No Steps happen to be.

James: I needed someone to help me and do the right thing and have a good time.

James and Norman: Cheers!

Gaye: He has just grown tremendously as a person and he’s quite happy living in his own house. He loves having his own house. I’m sure that House with No Steps will encourage him to fulfil all of his ambitions and he still has quite a lot on his list. But he’s just grown so much over the last 18 months

so I’m sure that that will keep happening.
