Staff and participants answer the call and grab their capes for the first Superhero Day.
Club Aruma in Morwell, Victoria, recently turned on the Bat Signal and called for the first ‘Superhero Day’, a fun-filled day of games, food and friendly competition.
Participants and staff came dressed as their favourite superhero and were amazed to see the Morwell Hub transformed into a headquarters fit for a legion of heroes.
The team spent more than two months planning and preparing the games and decorations to wow the participants. By the look on their faces, it was time and energy well spent.
Organiser and Hub Lead, Adam Skilbeck, said it was nice to see the participants reaction to the team’s efforts. “All in all, it was two months in the planning with many, many hours arranging and ordering. Following the event, we printed off some photos and handed them out to the participants and it was great to relive the memories made at our first Superhero Day,” he said.
A highlight of the day was the paper plane balloon popping competition where participants stood behind a table with 250 paper planes with toothpicks and threw them at a wall covered in balloons. The activity brought out some healthy competition as participants all tried to pop as many balloons as possible.
There was also Spiderman table tennis, Captain America shield toss and a mini city Hulk Smash, not to mention a Hawkeye archery competition.
After some delicious hero-themed foods and drinks, the group enjoyed a Superhero class, where they were able to share their superpowers and talk about their favourite superhero.
Still abuzz from the success of their first event, there’s already talk of making it an annual celebration.
