COVID-19 update: Greater Brisbane lockdown

Important COVID-19 update about the impact of the Greater Brisbane lockdown on Aruma disability services.

January 8, 2021

On Friday 8th January, the Queensland Government announced that Greater Brisbane (Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton, and Redlands) will enter a 3-day lockdown from 6pm tonight, 8 January 2021 until 6pm on Monday 11 January. You can find more information on the Qld Government website.

This is in response to a person testing positive to the new COVID-19 strain from the UK.

What does this mean for our services in Greater Brisbane?

From 6pm tonight, Friday 8 January until 6pm, Monday 11 January, all of Greater Brisbane will be at a red site rating. All our staff will also wear masks both indoors and outdoors.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes

No visitors are allowed into any of our SIL homes unless they are providing essential care.

Our customers who live in SILs in the Greater Brisbane area (Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, and Moreton) must also stay at home. They can only leave for the following reasons:

  • Shopping for essentials, food and necessary supplies
  • Medical or healthcare needs, including compassionate requirements
  • Exercise with no more than one other person, unless all from the same household
  • Work, or volunteering, or study if it is not reasonably practicable to work or learn remotely
  • Child custody arrangements
  • Legal obligations
  • Visit for end of life
  • Attend funeral or wedding in line with restrictions

Children’s Services

Our Children’s Services will follow the same protocols as our SIL homes mentioned above.

Community Hubs

Our Community Hubs (also known as day services or day programs) in Greater Brisbane will be closed until the morning of Tuesday 12 January.

Flex Supports

Flex Supports will continue. We cannot support customers to go out into the community unless it is for one of the legitimate reasons listed above. If we do go into the community, we will wear masks. Our customers will need to wear masks too.

If a customer is not able to wear a mask when outside, we will consider alternative arrangements such as rescheduling our activity.

Offices

All our offices in Greater Brisbane will close be closed on Monday 11 January. Our staff will work from home.

Our Businesses

We have some Facility Services crews who work out and about in this area. They can continue to do so and will continue to use the COVID-safe protocols in place.

As a reminder to always monitor your health

The Queensland Government is encouraging everyone to get tested if they have even the slightest symptoms. A list of testing locations can be found on the Qld Government website.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
