Artists with a disability create mural

Fifteen budding artists with a disability have shown off their artistic flair while creating an extraordinary wall sized mural at our Townsville Community Support Service.

We joined forces with Townsville City Council to fund the colourful project that was painted by local artist Garth Jankovic and the aspiring artists supported by the service.

“Garth involved and consulted the people we support throughout the whole process which was fantastic. The guys have loved being involved in every part of process from the design to the actual painting, it has been a true collaboration”, said Mick Fallon, Service Manager.

The mural was funded by the Townsville City Council through the Queensland Government’s GraffitiSTOP Program. We sourced the input of the council in the hope of opening the centre up to the community, while providing great opportunities for the participants at the service to showcase their skills.

Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said, “The council, with the support from the Queensland Government, is pleased to support the mural that adds a new dimension to the centre which is delivering an important service to our community. The project was a great opportunity to collaborate with the people who access the centre in the development of this positive community art piece”.

The mural has really brightened up the service making it a fun and inviting place to come to each day.
