My name is Shane and I have been working for Aruma for 13 years - starting straight out of school.
I am a 31 year old father of two and husband to one. I am an outgoing bloke who loves the outdoors especially the beautiful white sands of Jervis Bay. I am usually found around the BBQ, at my local gym, or spending time with my family including our dogs at the beach.
I have been working for Aruma (formerly House with No Steps and The Tipping Foundation) for 13 years and have been with them the entirety of my adult working life starting at the age of 18, straight out of high school.
My start was a little less conventional with my Mum forwarding on my resume after reading an ad in the local paper calling for Support Workers in the Illawarra area. I was told of this when Mum received a response asking me to come along to an information session. Until then I knew nothing of Aruma or the disability sector. But I attended the information session and as they say, the rest is history.
During my 13 years, I have had countless opportunities to affect change in people’s lives and support some amazing outcomes. From simply connecting people to their local communities and developing friendships, to supporting people to travel overseas independently. I have supported people to have a voice, as well as been privileged to advocate on behalf of others.
I have coached and mentored teams of Support Workers to ensure we deliver quality support to our customers and develop strong relationships with our families and carers.
Aruma has afforded me the opportunity to undertake career development opportunities starting at Certificate 3 in Disability work, to completing a Diploma in Management and Leadership. I have undertaken my training and assessment qualification, project management training as well as industry specific training and development.
All of this has enabled me to progress through my career, starting as a Support Worker, and 13 years on fulfilling the role of Area Manager for our Southern Region.
I hold great passion for what I do and love that Aruma supports and encourages me everyday to work with this passion.
